Escalante Show pieces

Here are some pieces I did for an upcoming show down at the Escalante arts festival this year. This past summer I got the chance to travel down to Southern Utah with a group of art students to study the area. We hiked Bryce Canyon and some of the slot canyons in the area named Peek-a-boo and Spooky, it was an incredible trip. Ever since I was a little girl, I stared to collect post cards my older sister would send home from the places she traveled. It began a family tradition, and now with all us kids out of the house, we get the chance to send each other cool post cards from all the places we live and travel to. I thought it would be a fun idea to create my own postcards and recount some of the feelings I had while on the trip. So here they are, enjoy :)

Elemental Design...

So here's a quick look into a really cool assignment I just finished up, the idea was to take an element of
nature such as clouds, rocks, trees etc and create a design. I had a ton of fun with this one, I've never studied water before but it's pretty incredible how versatile it is. Here's a quick look into my process with this one...

Sketch Book update

Sadly I have neglected my poor blog for the past few weeks so here's a little bit of what I've been up to this summer sketch wise with more to come soon! A new goal; post more often so I'm going to shoot for at least one post a week with intentions of more of course...

Figure sketches

I've been crashing a friends figure class in the mornings to keep up on my life drawing...here are some studies from today. I made a switch from pen to pencil with much success. I've been quite frustrated for the past few weeks trying to conquer ball point, and with gesture I've realized I feel out the rhythms much more successfully with other media, so perhaps I'll abandon ball point for awhile.

Mid term for Joe's class

This is my midterm project for the awesome Joe Olsen's Drawing for Animation Class. I'm actually currently in his class listening to a critique, I'm pretty sad, definitely going to miss his humor and the great insight into design he's given me throughout this semester. I'm not entirely done with this piece, I'm going to clarify the pose a bit so it reads better but here's what I've got so far. Any feedback would be much appreciated!
The assignment began as a vinyl toy design to the theme of "Monster in my closet". Then for the midterm we were supposed to redesign the toy into a board game piece.

Quick Creature design

Here's a little creature design I did recently. I didn't have too much time to paint it up, so I was a bit frustrated with not achieving a certain level of detail with the colors but it was still a fun exercise nonetheless. This summer my goal is to learn how to paint, so I'm pretty excited to have the time to do that.

Gesture Drawing!

One of my favorite classes by far every semester is figure drawing. When I first came to college I remember my first figure class and how much I struggled with my drawing skills. Most people don't believe me but one of these days I'm going to dig up some of those first drawings I saved and post them up. Ever since I was in high school when I ran across figurative work for the first time I fell in love and knew that one day I wanted to capture the beauty of the human figure like all the masters who have inspired me. One of my most inspirational art teachers in high school Mrs. Sanchez-St. Andre turned me on to an artist by the name of Richard Mcdonald who is one of the most incredible contemporary sculptors. If you've never seen any of his work please stop right now and look it up here http://www.richardmacdonald.com/. After begging my teacher to let us start drawing the figure she set up a few weeks where we got the chance to study the gesture and sustained poses but it wasn't until the past year and a half that I really got the chance to discover the true beauty of the figure, the epitome of design. Enough said, here are some gesture studies from the past few months I compiled, enjoy.

Some figurative work...

I'm wrapping up all of my studies for my figure drawing class midterm with the wonderful Bob Barrett and thought I'd post up some stuff. One of the assignments was a self portrait which I've actually never done before and had a surprisingly very fun time doing it. Granted I was running off four hours of sleep from the night before and it was 2 in the morning when I finally got around to working on it, I think it turned out not too shabby. I think many more self portraits lay ahead in my future :)

Vinyl Chameleon Toy

Quick Post, here is a vinyl toy I designed this past weekend and painted up for my digital painting class. Had quite a bit of fun with this little guy, still need to make a few corrections here and there before he's done but thought I'd post him up nevertheless.

Vinyl Toy Design, monster in my closet

Haven't posted in a while but here's a fun little guy I designed for one of my classes. The assignment was
to design a vinyl toy with the theme of monster in the closet. Still trying to get used to the prismacolor
markers and tech pens, but I think I'm slowly getting the hang of it.
